The Oscar Awards 2011

March 1, 2011

The big winners of this year’s Oscar Awards ended with a tie, leaving “The King’s Speech” and “Inception” with a total of four wins each.  “The King’s Speech”, with thirteen nominations, won Best Picture, Actor in a Leading Role, Directing, and Writing.  “Inception” had eight nominations and took home Cinematography, Sound Editing, Sound Mixing, and Visual Effects.  With these two big winners, it looks as if the Academy voted in a traditional way rather than going for modern movie choices.  However, movies such as “Alice in Wonderland” did take home two awards while “The Social Network” won three.

Throughout the night, awards went out to “The Fighter”, “Toy Story 3”, “Black Swan”, “Inside Job”, “Strangers No More”, “In a Better World”, “The Wolfman”, “The Last Thing”, and “God of Love”.  However, the big winner in this year’s award season was “The King’s Speech”, which is now number eight on my All-Time Top Ten list of awards won from The Oscars, SAG Awards, BAFTAs, and Golden Globes.  This year’s Oscar Awards was unique in the way nominees were announced and who announced them.  The 2011 Oscars tried to draw a younger crowd with Anne Hathaway and James Franco, the two youngest hosts the Oscars have ever had.  The night concluded with the PS 22 Chorus from Staten Island singing “Somewhere Over the Rainbow”.  It was a great night for nominees and winners alike!
