Throughout awards shows, you get to see who was the best and worst dressed. However, except for Best Costume Design, awards shows recognize the talent of actors, actresses, producers, directors and a whole host of other people in the film industry. With that in mind, let’s take a look at the winners of this year’s awards so far. At the Golden Globes, “The Social Network” won Best Motion Picture for Drama, Best Director of a Motion Picture, Best Screenplay, and Best Original Score. Meanwhile at the SAG Awards, “The King’s Speech” received awards for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture and Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role. Curiously, no awards were given to the “The Social Network” at the SAG Awards. Since the SAG Awards are focused on acting rather than other elements of a production, some expected that “The Fighter” cast would have won top prize. The outcomes at the Golden Globes and SAG Awards have, therefore, made predicting the outcome of the 2011 Academy Awards, or Oscars, that much more difficult.
Nonetheless, at this year’s 2011 Oscar Awards, “Inception” is predicted to take home two awards, for Best Original Screenplay and Best Picture, even though the movie did not receive any awards at the Golden Globes or the SAG Awards. “The Social Network” has been predicted to win Best Director at the Oscars. While Christopher Nolan, director of “Inception”, was declared one of the most original directors in years, David Fincher was simply masterful in his cinematography and in assembling his cast. Colin Firth from “The King’s Speech” is expected to take home the award for Best Actor. Other awards are expected to be given out to “True Grit” for Best Supporting Actor, “Never Let Me Go” for Best Supporting Actress and “Black Swan” for Best Actress. The Academy Awards presentation will be held at the Kodak Theater in Hollywood, California. Watch this year’s 83rd Annual Academy Awards on Sunday, February 27, 2011 on ABC.
